The 2019 Governor’s Summit on Fatherhood was held on June 28, 2019. The Summit brought together state and local leaders, as well as dads from across the state, and discussed the importance of access to fatherhood training and resources. Secretary Daryl Bassett explained why we should focus on fatherhood and discussed the importance of being an active and engaged dad. Randy Jumper, Executive Director of Arkansas Better Dads, shared about the program and highlighted multiple partners across the state. Phil Harris, Arkansas TANF Director, recognized and honored Larry McDowell, Regional Program Manager for Administration for Children & Families, for his work and commitment to provide funding for programs in the region. Governor Asa Hutchinson discussed the importance of partnership and called us to action while sharing some of his personal experience with fatherhood. Sidney Moncrief inspired and challenged men to leave the legacy of an active and involved dad. The morning session concluded with three instructional workshops: 1.) How to Partner with Arkansas Better Dads. 2.) Mentoring Low Income Youth. 3.) Building a Bridge to Useful & Gainful Employment. The evening session offered food trucks and inspirational speakers Sidney Moncrief, Ron Brewer and Rod Loy.

The Summit was funded by Arkansas Division of Workforce Services (ADWS) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
